About TECOM

The Tecom district is one of Dubai's evolving localities with its high-rises featuring residential units and offices, retail spaces as well as a number of hotels and serviced apartments. It was formerly known as Tecom Area C to distinguish it from Dubai Media City (Area A), Dubai Internet City (Area B) and Knowledge Village (Area D). It was planned as an extension to Dubai Media City which had long waiting lists back in 2006-07. The locality was divided into a large number of development plots, some of which were sold to sub-developers.
Like all of Dubai's new neighborhoods, Tecom too has its own challenges, advantages and pitfalls. The greatest advantage is its accessibility — whether from Shaikh Zayed Road or from Al Khail Road. For traffic coming from Dubai as well as from Abu Dhabi, getting into Tecom has become extremely convenient with the new bridges and underpasses.
Accessing the Parallel Road to go to places such as Mall of Emirates and Jumeirah Lake Towers is also easy. Getting on to Al Khail Road and Emirates Road is a breeze given the numerous entry and exit points that Tecom boasts of.

Dubai has emerged as a global city and business hub of the Middle East and South Asia. It is also a major transport hub for passengers and cargo. By the 1960s Dubai's economy was based on revenues from trade and, to a smaller extent, oil exploration concessions, but oil was not discovered until 1966. Oil revenue first started to flow in 1969.Dubai's oil revenue helped accelerate the early development of the city, but its reserves are limited and production levels are low: today, less than 5% of the emirate's revenue comes from oil.

The emirate's Western-style model of business drives its economy with the main revenues now coming from tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services. Dubai has recently attracted world attention through many innovative large construction projects and sports events. The city has become symbolic for its skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, in particular the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Dubai has been criticized for human rights violations concerning the city's largely South Asian workforce. Dubai's property market experienced a major deterioration in 2008–2009 following the financial crisis of 2007–2008 but is making a gradual recovery with help from neighboring emirates.
